[Undersea Wine] Abdushelishvilismarani / Mtsvane 2021 (Amber)

[Kakhuri Mtsvane, one of the indigenous white grapes native to the Kakheti region, Georgia]

Kakhrimtsvane was one of the most popular white grape varieties in the Kakheti region in the early 19th century, but it is more precocious than other varieties, being less sensitive to powdery mildew and more precocious.

It grows particularly well in the Tsinandali, Manavi, Gurdjaani, Vazisubani and Kardenakhi PDOs and is often blended with Rkatsiteli, making it suitable as a table grape.

Kakhli means "Kakheti" and Mtsvane means "green" and is one of six different Mtsvane varieties found in Georgia, each named after its growing origin.

Kahrimtsvane, which is thought to be older than Rkatsiteli, has dark green, funnel-shaped leaves with five blades.

When brewed with Qvevri, it develops fine-grained tannins, a smooth, light body, and elegant aromas of distinctive black tea, apricot, and white peach.

When brewed in the European style, it has fresh citrus, floral and tropical aromas with a light minerality, but unless it is brewed in Qvevri, it is prone to oxidation and often requires anaerobic treatment, so it is often blended with Kisi or Rkatsiteli to suppress oxidation.
